Frequently Asked Questions

The fact that you’ve got this far must mean you’re looking for something very special, rather than just ordinary. You’ve got lots of questions you want to ask, and rightly so.

I’ve taken some time to answer all the ‘big’ questions I get asked, because I know you want to make as informed a decision as possible. If you still have questions at the end, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

How much does an Equestrian Lifestyle session cost?

I believe in being totally upfront about cost & pricing so there are no nasty surprises! A lifestyle session costs £160 during the week, and £195 at the weekend. This does not include any products. These are purchased separately and you can read more about products and packages on my pricing page

I’m confident that you will LOVE your photographs. However, should that not be the case, I will refund your session fee without question.

Do I need to pay a booking fee?

Your session fee is payable in full at the time of booking. This is not refundable but may be transferred to an alternative date once. Receipt of your signed contract & session fee secures your date and prevents it being offered to other clients.

What happens if I need to cancel my session?

If you need to cancel your lifestyle session after booking you will lose your booking fee. If you need to reschedule for whatever valid reason and in a reasonable amount of time I will of course accommodate where possible, but please note this can only be rearranged once.

How much can I expect to spend on my products?

My clients spend anything from £350 to upwards of £2000 on their products. It really depends on what you decide to do with your final images. For more details see my pricing page

Can I pay in instalments?

If you spend £800 or more with me, you can opt to pay in instalments. The investment can be spread over three months. After your third and final payment is received your prints are ordered (if applicable) and your digital files are available to download.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept all major credit/debit cards, and online bank transfers.

How soon will my images be ready to view and how do I see them?

I know you’ll be excited to see your images so I aim for a quick turnaround. You’ll have a fully finished gallery of beautiful images to choose from, within 14 days of your shoot. I’ll send you a message to let you know when your online gallery is available to view, and you do all of this from the comfort of your own home

How many images will I get to choose from?

I aim to select a minimum of 30-40 of the best images from your session.

Will my images be in colour or black and white?

As you can tell from my website I love black and white photography and I think it really lends itself to the storytelling aspect of lifestyle photography. However, I understand that not everyone shares this opinion. That’s why your images will be available to view in both colour and black and white.

Can I buy prints of my images or do you just sell digital files?

Although we live in a digital age, I understand that many people still prefer something tangible, like a print. That’s why I currently offer 12″ x 10″ prints as a standalone product as well as the three digital packages. For more details see my pricing page

Who owns the copyright to my images?

The copyright always remains that of the photographer. However, images are meant to be shared and I love seeing clients posting their pictures on social media. All I ask is that you attribute a photo credit to Catherine Darby Photography and refrain from adding filters, re-editing in any way or cropping the images. Your digital files come with full printing rights and you can print them as often as you like. What you can’t do is sell them to third parties or pass them off as your own.

Why are your digital files so expensive?

Digital files can be thought of as a premium product, given the freedom you have to do whatever you like with them. They will last forever and you can print them out in any format, as often as you like. Turn them into prints, albums, canvases – the choice is yours!

What if the weather is bad?

I’ll keep an eye on the weather forecast and if it’s looking really bad I’ll be in touch first thing in the morning to discuss our options. This may involve rescheduling at no extra cost. Heavy rain, high winds and fog are generally the only things that put a stop to a session.

Can I share the cost of a session with my friend?

If two of you are going to be at the same venue, in the same class or travelling together then yes, it will be possible to share the cost. However, due to me not being able to be in two places at once, you may not get the number of images that you’d hoped for.
